Volunteer with us

At Ubuntu Africa, we believe in the power of showing up—not as saviours, but as supporters, listeners, and learners. Our volunteer program offers a unique opportunity to work directly alongside our team in the heart of Ngando, Nairobi, and be part of the lasting change we’re building together. Volunteers play a meaningful role in supporting our school, engaging with students, assisting in daily operations, and contributing to wider community initiatives.

Volunteering
Frequently Asked Questions

Who can volunteer with Ubuntu Africa?

We welcome passionate individuals aged 18 and over who are eager to contribute meaningfully and respect local culture. Prior experience is not required—just an open heart and a willingness to learn. Your unique experiences and qualifications can open opportunities for different roles or tasks within the school, and we encourage volunteers to bring any skills or talents they may have. For safeguarding reasons, all volunteers must complete a full disclosure and background check before participating.

Is there a minimum stay or commitment?

We recommend a minimum stay of two weeks to ensure both the volunteer and the community benefit from the experience. However, longer stays are encouraged and offer deeper engagement.

What does the volunteer fee cover?

All volunteers are required to raise a mandatory volunteer fee. This covers airport pickup, daily transport to and from the school with a trusted local driver, lunch at the school during volunteer hours, and accommodation in a local Airbnb with all home comforts—providing you a safe, relaxing place to unwind in the evenings. After these essentials are covered, 100% of the remaining fee goes directly to the school, supporting daily meals, school materials, local staff wages, and essential operational costs. Volunteers are also encouraged to do additional fundraising or bring physical donations to further support the project.
